DETACHMENT A PHILOSOPHY OF SELF-MANAGEMENT.

In today's world where every one is lost in the mirage of materialistic gains, selfishness and competitive zeal have made a man mechanical generating despair and depression ,the philosophy of detachment is the only way to live well. This philosophy as enunciated by Krishna in the GITA has been a great source of delight and inspiration for me since my childhood. It has helped me in managing stress and strain. It is yoga of one's mind to control thought process leading to sickness of mind darkened by desire for fruits and worldly pleasure.Sorrow, separation, stress, despondency are states of mind which every individual inherently carries at one point of time in life.In a situation like this resentment wells up threatening our peace of mind and happiness. It is this desire which nourishes our dreams and strengthens our attachment to worldly things. However, the philosophy of detachment never teaches that one should not have dreams and desire at all.It is a science through which mind could be trained to manage the stress .It helps us in understanding the causes which sicken our minds. In Europe and America majority of people suffer from nervous disorder , the cases of depression, schizophrenia are very high.Stepping into WESTERN life style ,many people in India are becoming psychopathetic cases.Detachment could teach people to manage self in office, home, institutes and in interpersonal life. Thus one could avoid afflictions to oneself attaining sublimity of mind and thought process.

While living in this world,we may have to face many situations where we have to give responses or reactions to every kind of situation. The mind which produces these reactions also has the inherent capacity to live through and outlive them.If mind creates an emotion or agitation ,it can as well live through and outlive it.Detachment never teaches you to get subdued or makes you timid but it enriches your search engine, helps you to filter and sublimate how to remain unaffected .The very nature of life, the laws of universe teach us that we are not born to become attached to anything..Now, the question arises, what is meant by detachment? It is self-courted bondage. It is layered by the webs of maya., what Shankara calls illusion..We live , love, get married..The associations of marriage is a source of joy, harmony and additional strength for us.If it proves to be cumbersome or otherwise, a source of agitation, anxiety and fear, it subdues and checks the freedom of your mind instead of nourishing and expanding it,then it is because of attachment. This attachment is to be identified and removed.Without detachment, you cannot have strength ,tranquility and freedom.

Life is such a loose bag monster that you may never know ,when your composer has been assaulted by  attachment? You may work at home ,office, schools, colleges or a multinational organization, the ethics of work teaches you to be like a catalyst which accelerates the rate of reaction remaining unaffected like a tungsten wire. The air that we breathe, the rivers that nourishes vast regions through its courses of flow, animals that serve us, mountains, fountains, rivers running through the seas, nothing get attached, then why men? This is the question which had afflicted Arjuna in the Mahabharata , which Krishna diagnosed to cure through his deliberations (therapeutic counselling) on the philosophy of detachment and stress management, without which he would have never won the war and relapsed  to non-performance.

We are supposed to be moving, flowing.Initially, we are related to our parents. Then tied in the marital bond. Then we have children, their marital relations, children and the grand children.Through all these relationship we are supposed to flow, without getting attached to anything. Swami Bhumananda Tirtha calls it inner enrichment through knowledge.Whenever you suffer, the cause is attachment .Budha renounced the world to get the answer for himself first, and then the whole world. You can practice this yoga of detachment caught into the whirlpools of this world and manage your self to produce better results, benevolent thoughts and build up great cultural values and treasure in society.Detachment unleases the forces of creativity, tranquility, sublimity , harmony enriching your life, making it rewarding and happier.

ANARCHY OF SUBJUGATION

To be humble is a virtue often lauded by ethics , metaphysics, canonical and religious literature .Humility is not weakness but a philosophy of a strong mind accomplished with knowledge, morality and fruitfulness.A tree laden with fruits and flowers has tendency to get inclined downward. On the contrary,a naked tree stands erect .Even the law of gravitation validates it.A man climbing uphill always bows down to scale unknown heights.A man rolling down gets caught by the pull..Nature provides many allusions to authenticate this tendency philosophically and scientifically.Wisdom lies in living things we perceive with our inner eyes and not in letting these just pass as we do with a racing motor or scooter on road. However, it is this tendency to let things just pass which creates a false consciousness of objects in our surroundings. This false consciousness further gets hardened and forms our character.Subjugation is coupled with power to see the object of subjugation being maimed and cowed down.A psychological dive to dictate and rule better explains it..Aristotle divided entire race in two specific categories those of masters and slaves. Is one born to be master or slave ? This question is debatable if we go into the domain of philosophy .psychology, history and social anthropology. Therefore, I focus on chemistry of subjugator  and the subjugated. The psyche of subjugated person is fragmented by overpowering sense of social insecurity, fear of getting lost and annihilated .It is this lack of conviction, morality and and solidarity of self which makes one submissive. There are two states of subjugation or self-surrendering ; extreme devotion and extreme fear of getting annihilated. The former is not forced but arises out of love and devotion the latter arises out of fear. The former rejects the philosophy of fear and despair. In the later case one is afraid of getting destroyed. It is this fear which makes a subjugated being rejoicing the illegitimate :external authority and rejecting the internal authority of the self.Relapsing to one's internal authority one may lead to self interrogation and rebellious attitudes.Abnegation of self and dispelling fear are two arms to overcome self-created monster. On the other hand, the ruler or master sticks to his or her self propagated philosophy of power that might knows no other rights. It is this tendency of the mighty and submissiveness of the weaker selves that generates, perpetuates and practices the anarchy of subjugation.Salvation lies in rejection of the authority and building a stronger moral impregnable self.Otherwise anxiety would haunt our self as it  pervaded Kierkegaard :
"I stick my finger into existence- it smells nothing.Where am I? What is this thing called world?Who is it who lured me into the thing,
and now leaves me here? How did I come into the world? Why was I not consulted?".

SELF DECEPTION

Deception is more an art  than tricks of conscious mind.It is delusion of self where the boundaries between self and the other becomes more of appearance than reality.Human nature is more complex and human consciousness is far more complex to understand.Psychologists have interpreted human consciousness as the most complex web and human being as the most complex organism.Human consciousness is like a big hall with millions of mirrors ,reflecting the light and forming myriad shapes and figures.Looks are deceptive. The age old saying all that glitters is not gold , is true.Eliot rightly said, "there falls a shadow between appearance and reality".A deceptive person has two selves, one that is hidden to the world and  the other which is manifested.Such a person may be sweet tongued, naive, simple outwardly but cunning, harsh and selfish from within. So such persons are like sugarcoated bitter pills.Their simplicity is deceptive .Simple and gullible person gets trapped by their cunning tricks. It is this concealed self of the deceptive person which is camouflaged by different forms and textures. It is difficult for a person to perceive the crooked face hidden under the mask of a loving face.It has been  often said that beautiful sea creatures are tempting, luring and dreadful. One needs to be protected against the poisonous tentacles because within the veil of beauty lies a monstrous face.Sita was abducted by  Ravana as a  sanyasi asking for alms ,and Marich distracted Ram by feigning as a beautiful golden deer.Deception lies in temptation.I know a lady for many years, who is so well behaved, so pleasing and yet so cunning. No one can frame any fixed opinion about her.You cannot count on her.I had to revise my opinion of her so many times that  I don,t have any opinion of her at all. There is another man whom I trusted to be very naive but after some years he shocked me by revealing his true character. All saffron clad men, with long beard and hair are not god men but we see the real devil hidden in this  saintly robes.A man dons several selves within his natural self. Each self is projected in a specific level of interaction suited to his needs. My grand nanny used to tell us a story of a wicked churrail(witch) who lived on a mango tree on the back of our orchard. She had several faces which she used as mask suited to her object of prey. She used to keep these faces in the trunk of the tree.As a child I could neither understand nor question my grand nanny out of fear as to how a witch could have so many faces which she could use as dress. Now I understand it, as I have grown to see real life witches. And I remember the maxim , never give any final judgment on any person till one is dead.

WHAT AILS OUR SOCIETY AND THE WORLD?

This world is sick with self-love.Materialism has become the philosophy of middle class.People have become so narcissistic that they have become blind to virtues, humanism and compassion. It is this inner blinding of the self that leads him to propagate himself and his concerns. Why a man has become so insensitive to his surroundings, remains to be perceived inwardly. Socializing, partying and meeting have become modern means of business, networking and material gains. No one is interested in your problems until one is not sf-afflicted in any way.It is this apparent loss of empathatic relationship which intrigues any man who assingns values to humanism..
I know many people ,who are not least bothered by other's pain and miseries. They simply let these pass as a newspaper's reporting. Such mercenary attitudes may impoverish any society of basic values ,sweetness and light of any culture which sustains any civilization. It is dangerous for any civilization , a symptom more dangerous than the disease itself. It pains my heart to see ,what man has made of man.It is this sense of self-worthlessness,loss of love and compassion which has rendered a man to a robot. He is chasing a mirage in a dreary desert ,and unknowingly he gets closer to death. The rampant crimes, greed, cruelty and killings that haunt us are due to such mercenary tendencies. One needs to know the purpose of life, its truth and values.I have seen people living and dying for money ,they are restless, they don't have peace of mind.Their only solace is celebration of self, their only mission is minting money. They have become a psychopathetic case.
Any society replete with such people may turn into a pathological laboratory, a lunatic asylum .It is the most dreaded fear , dilemma and challenge of the modern world. We have made material progress but decadence has perpetuated ,which is alarming.
